Frequently asked questions

  • Yes, we welcome all patients from both insurance and self pay pathways. Simply call us on 01252 881543 or email us at pa@surreybloodcare.com.

All self funded consultations require payment in advance and when you book an appointment an invoice will be sent to you for payment. If you require any diagnostic tests during or following your consultation, these will be charged separately by the hospital.

  • Both Frimley Park Hospital (Parkside suite) and Spire Clare Park Hospital offer accessbility for patients including wheelchair access and access to interpreters - please inform us of any specific needs when booking your appointment and we can assist you with all arrangements during your visit. There is drop off access outside the hospitals.

  • If you are self-funding, you can book directly without a referral. Some private medical insurers require a GP referral for coverage.

Referral letters can help to ensure that haematology is the most appropriate specialty for a consultation. They can provide helpful summaries of relevant past medical conditions, medications and test results, saving time and avoiding unnecessary repeat tests.

If you have relevant test results or investigation results that you wish to be reviewed, please upload them to your patient portal, ideally ahead of the appointment.

  • Dr Rees is approved with the major providers including BUPA, AXA PPP, WPA, Aviva, Healix, Allianz and Cigna. She is adheres to the fee schedules of all of these insurers. Some PMI providers offer a referral service and are able to book an appointment directly with the consultant for you.

  • No, Dr Rees sees only adults aged 19 and above in private practice.

  • When you arrive at the hospital, a member of the reception team will greet you and may ask you to complete some registration details, so it’s best to arrive 15 minutes before your appointment. The reception team will direct you to the waiting area for your appointment, from where Dr Rees will come to collect you.

Dr Rees may request further investigations to assist in making a diagnosis. Blood tests can typically be done at the time of the appointment, but sometimes (particularly with late appointments after ~18.30) you may need to return on another day for blood tests. Some specialised blood tests need to be planned in advance for a later date.

Imaging such as x-rays, ultrasound, CT, PET CT scans and MRI scans may be arranged following your appointment. These are typically booked for another day and the department organising this will contact you directly to arrange this appointment.

If you have had previous blood tests, x-rays or scans related to your condition, please bring these along to all your consultations. Please also bring any copies of letters from your GP or specialists. You can also upload any previous results or letters to your patient portal to keep all your records in one place. When you book your first appointment, you will be sent details about our patient portal and how to access it.

We’ll also manage the paperwork for you, from correspondence with your GP or consultant during the referrals process, to processing claims for payment with medical insurance providers.

If a follow up consultation or further investigations are required Dr Rees will indicate this and her PA will be in touch to arrange this for you.

You will receive a written summary of your consultation with Dr Rees and the agreed management plan. A copy will also be sent to your GP and to any other referring professionals.
